The Michigan Supreme Court recently handed down some decisions that will have a big affect on MDOC prisoners serving LWOP. In the decisions, the Court recognized that a young person’s mind is still developing at 21-years of age, so it is cruel and unusual to sentence a person 21-years of age to LWOP. The Court also applied these decisions retroactively.
I spoke with Bro. Sanders El twice today over the phone, and we had a great conversation. Sanders El is especially interested in the recent Michigan Supreme Court decisions as they effectively entitle him resentencing, and he’s been down a long, long, time; too long. And it’s time for Sanders El to be released.
