Tonight I am going to the 2nd annual graveside vigil for my nephew, Santiago “Dewey” Ruiz, who committed suicide two years ago. It hurts every time I allow myself to think about Dewey. Dewey had a whole life ahead of him, and so many people loved him. But “love” does not always break through the walls of depression. That is why it is so important to let someone know how you are feeling so that you can get help. You can talk to a parent, brother, sister, friend, teacher, or call the free national suicide hotline at 988. If you are that person that knows of someone who might be feeling depressed or suicidal, YOU be the one who goes to a trusted parent, brother, sister, friend, teacher, or call the free national suicide hotline at 988 to get help for the person.
It’s ok to say you feel depressed or suicidal. I feel suicidal every day. I can’t even remember the last day I didn’t think of suicide. I have been dianosed with PTSD, MDD, and I have suicidal ideations. I struggle with this. But I am here to say that I don’t believe suicide is the answer to any of my problems. So, I talk with a psychiatrist and I take medication for my mental health issues.
