When a viewer goes to Prison Nation’s Facebook page @prisonnation they will see a lot of posts that are more about the police than they are about prison. And from that some viewers draw a negative inference about Prison Nation’s demographic.
It should not come as a surprise that Prison Nation’s demographic includes prisoners. And attorneys. Or police. So it should not surprise anyone that Prison Nation’s demographic also includes pot smokers. Yep, all you heathens out there smoking the devil’s weed, wanting to know about your 4th Amendment, 5th Amendment, and 6th Amendment rights, are part of a large demographic. Heck, the same pot heads might be part of an even more sinister demographic that wants to know about the 8th Amendment and 13th Amendment.
Prison Nation’s demographic includes anyone who wishes to know about their constitutional rights, so they can protect their constitutional rights against any form of abuse, misconduct, corruption, or unlawful actions. Even police supporters should be ok with this, because a bad cop makes good cops look bad, which in turn makes it more dangerous for the good cops, and less safe for everyone, including the police supporters’ demographic. The whole community and society suffers from bad policing.
Some people say, “If you’re not hiding anything,” or “If you aren’t doing anything illegal,” what’s wrong with letting the police stop you or search your car? Even when people see the police punch, Tase, shoot, and kill people over a traffic stop, some people will say, “They should have cooperated,” or, worse, that the person “FAFO.”
Prison Nation’s demographic does not include some people or all people. Let’s face it, Prison Nation isn’t meant for everyone. But everyone is affected by mass incarceration in the United States.
The United States incarcerates more people per capita than any other country in the world. There are millions of people in the Prison Nation who are incarcerated or under some form of community control or supervision. Millions of more people are affected by the Prison Industrial Complex (PIC), directly or indirectly. Thousands of people are detained and incarcerated in private for-profit prisons. And the entire supply chain begins with policing.
Policing is a big part of the PIC. The police are funded and militarized, and use technology, surveillance, weapons, and tactics provided by private for-profit vendors, contractors, companies, and corporations that have billion-dollar market caps. In other words, policing is big business. Everyone knows Big Business means Big Money.
As a final thought, anyone can view Prison Nation’s website or other social media platforms, and engage in the discussion by leaving your comments.
Best wishes and shoutouts to everyone in the Prison Nation,
